Oxford: an introduction for subs
What to do: Oxford is one of the most beautiful and historic places in Britain and known as ‘the city of dreaming spires.’ It offers a huge variety of things to do. You could offer your Oxford Dominatrix a tour in a punt down the River Isis (part of the River Thames) or take your Oxford Mistress around some of the ancient colleges like Balliol and Christ Church where prime ministers, Nobel prize winners and literary giants spent their youth. Museums include the Ashmolean, with its vast collection of paintings and art objects, and the Pitt Rivers Museum of archaeology. You can buy a drink for your Mistress in Oxford in a medieval pub or dine with her in a fabulous world class restaurant.
Please bear in mind that the colleges are still places of learning full of young students, so check out opening times and entrance fees before arranging to accompany your Oxford Dominatrix around them.
How kink-friendly is Oxford? As you can imagine for such a vibrant city full of young people, Oxford is more tolerant than most places in the UK but not surprisingly all activity has to be discreet if not exactly underground. A number of pro-dommes advertise services in and around the Oxford area on the web. The Fetlife websites lists a number of groups and Munches in Oxford including Oxford Students, and over-35s Munch and Oxford’s oldest Munch which meets at the Castle Tavern. Events advertised on the site vary but have recently included a swingers party and a workshop on the fundamentals of suspension.
Famous Oxford kinksters. The nineteenth century poet Algernon Charles Swinburne is one of the best known kinkster writers in English literature. He wrote about taboo subjects including lesbianism and sadomasochism. He enjoyed being flogged and other forms of receiving pain. He had a wild crush on the explorer Sir Richard Burton. More recently, kink in another Oxford college, Christ Church was highlighted in the trial of a student there, Laura Woodward, who stabbed a boyfriend while under the influence of drugs. She was a well known figure on the Oxford LGBTQ+ scene, had a notorious collection of expensive underwear and boasted she had spent all night in the ‘orgy tent’ at the notorious annual Piers Gaveston ball, named after the lover of King Edward the Second. After Laura’s conviction, the college offered counselling to students, although this may not have been kink-friendly!
When to go: Oxford is at its best between May and September, although it can be thronged with tourists, especially in July and August. Autumn can be chilly but provides an opportunity to see the colourful foliage of the trees in the Botanical Gardens, in Christ Church Meadows or along the Isis at Port Meadow.
Where to stay: Oxford has some of the finest and most famous hotels in Britain including the Randolph, but you can also find budget, with accommodation including Air BnB or stay overnight in an Oxford College. You might even plan a kinky stay in one of them with your Mistress in Oxford.
